CitySearch, OrangeSoda JV to Offer Local SEO

Local online media site Citysearch and SEO provider OrangeSoda are partnering to provide a marketing tool that marries their respective strengths.

The new product, CityGrid Complete, is an extension of City Grid – an online ad network focused on local content that launched in January. “Every search engine has introduced local directory listings prominently in their organic search results and this has given small businesses another way to get featured in the search engine results real estate,” said Jay Bean, CEO of OrangeSoda.

Poynt App Marries AR, Search, Local and Mobile

A new app for the iPhone is bringing together search, local and augmented realty: the aptly-named Poynt.  The app uses augmented reality for a real-time view of businesses, people, retailers and theaters around the user. It also integrates with other features like the address book, maps and, of course, phone.

Mobile Facebook, Twitter Growth Explodes

Access to Facebook via mobile browser grew 112% in the past year, while mobile Twitter access experienced a 347% jump, according to a new study from comScore.

Mobile Users Favor Facebook and Twitter over MySpace

In January 2010, 25.1 million mobile users accessed Facebook via their mobile browser, up 112% from 11.8 million mobile users in January 2009. While only 4.7 million mobile users accessed Twitter from their mobile browser in January 2010, this represented 347% growth from 1.05 million mobile users in January 2009, writes MarketingCharts.

Google Wrap Up: Above the Fold; Gesture Search; Starred

Google made a number of significant announcements – even for the search engine giant – last week. For marketers three stand out in particular:

Above the Fold Ad Display

Google has launched a beta ad feature that will allow brand advertisers to target ads to ad units that are immediately visible when a page is loaded – that is, the portions of the page a user can see without needing to scroll down, Google explained in a blog post. In other words, above the fold.

SocNets, Oscars Bisect in Many, Varied Ways

This year the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rolled out its first app before the Oscars, which aired Sunday, should any fans not be able to catch it on television.

Visitors that went to m.oscar.com were able to receive mobile alerts as well share pictures over Twitter and Facebook and view trailers for the nominated films. Live streams, however, were not available on the iPhone/iTouch app with no supporting Flash functionality, Techie Buzz noted.
