Online TV-Watching Becomes Interactive Experience

Is a computer terminal like a movie screen? Well, for the past few years, TV networks and other purveyors of TV programs online have tried to display their wares in an environment much like an old movie house: The screen around the video is dark, the lights can be dimmed, and the tableau contains little else to distract you from your snippet of entertainment.

‘Watch to Win’ Campaign to Encourage Use of VOD Platform

In our previous post Avail-TVN Offers Operators the Opportunity to “Watch to Win” With Movies on Demand Promotion the importance of this campaign was mentioned. Further explanation of the campaign is given ahead.

Avail-TVN, the largest digital media services company in North America, has announced details of its sixth national “Watch to Win” campaign.

The Watch to Win category features three high profile movies, which fall in the free On Demand category. When viewers at any participating operator watch a free On Demand movie trailer from the Watch to Win category, they will be automatically entered to win. The movie trailer will have to be viewed between March 23 and April 26, 2010.

Service providers such as Charter Communications (News – Alert), Suddenlink Communications, and Mediacom Communications will be associated with this campaign. This ‘Watch to Win’ promotion will be available to viewers in nearly four million households, and will appear as a folder on operators’ VOD menus. Mail Online leads newspaper websites with more than two million daily browsers

LONDON – Mail Online remains the most popular newspaper website, growing its daily average browsers by 5.1% from January to reach 2.27 million in February, according to the latest ABCe figures.

The gap between Mail Online and Guardian.co.uk widened as the latter’s daily average browsers fell 3.2% to 1.86 million.

Telegraph.co.uk also saw its audience dwindle from January, down 6.3% to 1.55 million.

News International’s two online properties, which are expected to erect paywalls this year, both delivered substantial monthly increases.

The Sun drew 1.39 million, a rise of 9.9%, while Times Online, recorded 1.22 million, a rise of 6.3%.

There was a 7.7% boost for Independent.co.uk to 465,346 but Mirror Group Digital, which includes Mirror.co.uk, recorded 469,442 browsers, down 4.5% on the previous month. Continue reading ‘Mail Online leads newspaper websites with more than two million daily browsers’

Twestival returns this week in 24-hour Twitter charity party

LONDON – Social media users will flex their collective Twitter muscle for charity tomorrow in the second annual Twestival event, which will bring together 175 cities around the world to raise money for charity Concern Worldwide.

In the UK and Ireland 27 cities will host events, stretching from Cornwall in the south to Dundee north of the border and Belfast across the Irish Sea, that will hand over 100% of ticket sales and donations to support educational projects.

The events themselves, originally based around local Twitter users getting together have grown to include an eclectic mix of activities and settings this year ranging from an Idlewild DJ set in Edinburgh, karaoke in London and samba in Dublin.
