Members of the public throughout the country can now carry the CrimeReports national crime map wherever they go thanks to a new iPhone application created by CrimeReports.com.

The new CrimeReports iPhone application features official, up-to-date crime data directly from more than 600 law enforcement agencies across North America as well as sex offender data for all 50 states.

“The success of CrimeReports.com made it clear that there’s a great deal of interest in crime information out there,” said Ryan Lufkin, director of marketing at CrimeReports.com, Salt Lake City.

“Creating new and more convenient ways for community members to access that data is a key part of our mission,” he said.

CrimeReports offers a family of affordable, easy-to-use software tools for law enforcement agencies to understand crime trends and share crime data with the public.

The tools allow community members to make informed decisions to help improve the safety of their neighborhood and community.

The CrimeReports iPhone application provides one more avenue for agencies to get this information out quickly and conveniently to their constituents.

CrimeReports relies on the participation of local law enforcement agencies to provide it with official, accurate and timely data to share with users.

The goal is to expand its coverage throughout the United States and Canada in order to provide the National Crime Map, a single source for crime data. 

The CrimeReports iPhone application allows users to:
• Filter data by location or address, incident type and customizable date range
• View recent neighborhood-level crimes on the map or in a list
• View national sex offender data alongside crime in one’s neighborhood
• Sign-up for free, automated, email crime alerts
• Request the participation of local law enforcement agencies if they are not already on-board

Local law enforcement agencies pay a monthly fee to participate in CrimeReports.com.

The iPhone application is an added benefit of that service and is being provided at no extra charge to both participating agencies and community members.

The company does not display ads or send unsolicited emails to users.  

In addition to marketing the application through its social networking and national public relations efforts, CrimeReports is working with each of its partner agencies to help them get the word out to their community members.

“The target audience for the CrimeReports mobile application is really anyone concerned about crime in their community, though the new application lowers the barrier of entry to interested citizens who no longer have to wait for their local community policing meeting to find out about crime where they live,” Mr. Lufkin said.
