Facebook made its much-anticipated debut on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 video game consoles this week.

Microsoft launched the Xbox 360’s integration with Facebook today, bringing social networking experiences into the living room. Disney, Verizon partner to bring magic of mobile to parks

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has teamed up with Verizon Wireless to launch the Mobile Magic application.

Mobile Magic transforms Verizon devices into tour guides for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. This is the first Disney-developed mobile application that provides consumers with navigation of both parks.

“Bringing together the leader in wireless with the leader in family vacations offers a unique opportunity to provide a differentiated experience for our customers,” said Arturo Vera, digital marketing manager at Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Lake Buena Vista, FL. “Disney Parks is always seeking to enhance our guest experience.

“Mobile Magic helps our guests make the most out of their Disney Parks vacation by providing information and services that enable them to see and do more than ever before,” he said. “Mobile will continue to play an important role in the overall Disney Parks marketing strategy as phone capabilities evolve and consumer adoption of advanced services grows.”

Motorola’s DROID Review

However, there’s evidence that marketers may be ready to branch out into a brave new world of Web 2.0 online advertising possibilities.

Social media is a “must” in the marketing plan. The 2010 Media Planning Intelligence Study recently released a report that shows nearly 58% of its respondents ideally plan to include social media in their plans for marketing next year. The number for “ideally” planning was nearly the same as the responses for “realistically” planning, indicating that this strategy is high on the list for receiving a portion of advertising budgets at both major and minor companies.

News Through The Eyes Of Gen Y

survey conducted late last year by Pew Research Center demonstrates how the Internet has skyrocketed past newspapers and other sources as a preferred method for young adults to receive their news.

More recently The Guardian, one of the UK’s most widely-read publications, also polled young readers around the world about how they get their daily news, with similar findings: young people are increasingly turning towards the Web as the primary source for their daily news. Both surveys highlight the fact that traditional newspaper outlets should be looking for new ways to build readership among younger audiences.
