660 Million Text Messages Exchanged During Eid-ul-Fitr

SMS Acision reported that over 660 million text messages were delivered across its messaging systems during a 48 hour period in Pakistan, over the 2009 Eid festive season. With 95 million mobile subscribers representing 58% of the mobile penetration rate, Pakistan is one of the fastest growing mobile markets in the world.

“It is becoming very normal for SMS volumes to peak during festive seasons, mainly due to consumers opting to send SMS greetings because it is inexpensive, easy to use and supported by 100% of all mobile handsets in the market. One of the key drivers for SMS traffic growth in this market is the introduction of SMS bundles this year for the prepaid segment.

Facebook and Twitter’s Growth Flattens

Throughout the entire 2008 and the better part of 2009, Facebook and Twitter have reported explosive growth. Month after month, tremendous growth in numbers has been seen from both these services, while some giants of old, such as MySpace, dropped lower and lower.

Somewhere in June, however, Twitter stopped growing, at least according to Compete. The same thing happened to Facebook at the exact same time; at first the traffic numbers were attributed to the summer slumber, but now that Compete’s numbers for September are out, there’s no doubt that both Facebook and Twitter are no longer growing.
